They can never be too boring for me. I like to play around with dots and lines because for me those are easy to do.

I wish I could draw free handed like a pro. I am actually learning to draw and paint and hopefully in the near future I will be able to get my drawing on cookies.

For now, when I have to create a cookie with some animals or special designs, I have to rely on my Pico projector. It has helped me out many times and it definitely save me time from needing to draw out a pattern on a cookie first then fill it in.

Anyway, back to the red hearts. Hearts are my favorite shapes to make and I'm not sure why. I love hearts. The beauty about making hears is that you can use any color icing on them for any occasion, you can draw characters or scenery on them, in other words it's a perfect blank canvas to create whatever your heart desires.

Now let's get to decorating, shall we?

For this cookie you will need:

- heart shaped sugar cookie

- red food coloring (I used Wilton)

- flood consistency icing (not too runny and not too stiff)

- white and red

- piping consistency royal icing in red for the border (I used the flood consistency one since I did not feel up to mixing up another batch.

- piping consistency royal icing white for the white dots within the lace

- #1 Wilton decorating tip

- #2 Wilton decorating tip for the flooding or use a tipless bag

- piping bag

- couplers for the decorating tip and bag

- scribe tool or tooth pick

- scissors to cut the bag

- brush for food purpose only

- smaller heart cutter to mark the center of the bigger cookie or draw it out by hand and lastly

- an awesome attitude with lots of smiles on your face and some loud happy music

I did not get to record the beginning of the heart making. What I did is I took the smaller heart and imprinted it into the main cookie. You can also use an edible marker (hopefully red) to draw around the small hearth.

Next, I used some red food coloring and diluted it with some water then I painted the center heart with the red paint.

After it dried I outlined the outside of the smaller heart along the inner part of the bigger heart with the red flood consistency royal icing and used my scribe tool to remove the bubbles and to even out the icing.

Quickly I added white royal icing dots in equal distance from each other and I dragged my scribe tool (or tooth pick) through the center of each dot all the way around or follow the way I did it. This will create the white heart shapes.

Next, create the grid of your cross stitch pattern by making horizontal lines parallel to each other and then make your vertical lines parallel to each other. Try to keep the distance between the lines as even as you can, so you can have a nice grid for your dots.

Now start piping your dots and I will be counting the rows from the bottom up and I'm also going to give you the numbers of dots to fill in for the totally filled in heart)

1 dot in bottom center (leave a few rows clear from the corner of your small heart)

3 dots in the second row (btw, if you are starting your dots left to right in each row, make sure you start with one dot to the left of each dot from the below the line you are working with all the way to the 5th row)

5 dots in the third row

7 in the fourth row

9 in the fifth row

6th row start where the 5th row started fill in 4 dots, skip one, and fill in the next 4

7th row start two dots to the right of your first dot from the 6th row, skip 3 then pipe two more dots. (watch the video in slow motion if you need more visual help)

Now pipe white dots around the inner part of the red heart.

Make your lace edge and once it crusted a few seconds add the dots in the center.

You an add a few more white dots on your cross-stitch grid if you desire.

Your cookie is now finished. Let it dry overnight or for about 8-10 hrs.

This recipe will yield two servings (you can double the recipe for a larger batch and make sure you increase the Lime Essential Oil slowly, not all at once).

Cinco de Mayo just happened yesterday. Due to work, I could not participate or celebrate. I like to bake or make edible stuff. Sometimes I go for cookie creations, sometimes I just try a new soup recipe, and today I decided to play with my new ice-cream maker from Cuisinart.

I love Avocados and I eat them on a daily basis. Most of the time I just scoop it out of the shell and it it that way with a little Himalayan salt. Because in our home we always have avocados, sometimes there are too many ripe avocados at once and I don't want to throw them away.

I have to mention, last month, April 1st I started on a journey to reverse a health condition...so I went on a ketogenic diet. This definitely limits of what I can eat and that kind of puts a hold on my willingness to make something that has fruits, grains, and legumes in it. I am trying to avoid the temptation of breaking my ketogenic diet.

Anyway, lets get on to the Keto Friendly Avocado Ice-Cream making.

Ask for a sample or
purchase a bottle here

For the ice-cream I used:

1 medium ripe Avocado

1/4 cup Erythritol - it is a sugar alcohol (you can add more if you like it sweeter)

1/3 cup sour cream

1/4 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lime juice (I used lemon since I didn't have lime on hand)

5 drops of Young Living Lime Vitality Essential Oil

pinch of Himalayan Salt

Before you start making your ice-cream, make sure the freezer bowl form the Cuisinart ice cream maker is frozen (you don't hear any liquid sloshing around when you shake the bowl). I usually leave my bowl in the freezer overnight and if I don't use it then I just store it in there.

Directions to making the ice-cream:

Freezer Bowl

Slice open the avocado, remove the pit and scoop out the flesh. Put aside. Place the Sugar (Erythritol), sour cream, heavy cream, lime (or lemon) juice, the Lime Vitality Essential Oil and the salt in a bowl and with a hand mixer (or standing mixer) mix it till the sugar has melted. Add the avocado to the mix and beat it on high till it's fluffy and smooth.

Assemble your Cuisinart ice-cream maker by placing the freezer bowl, the paddle and the lid and turn on the ice-cream maker. Pour the mixture into the freezer bowl and let it churn for about 15 minutes. Keep an eye out as it might get too hard and won't churn.

While the ice-cream was churning, I toasted some pistachios and chopped them. I've also beat up some heavy whipping cream with some Erythritol and a little vanilla extract according to taste for my final touches.

When the ice-cream is done it will be a little on the soft serve side...which I don't mind. If you want it more solid, remove it from the freezer bowl, place it in an airtight container and freeze it for about 1-2 hrs.

hey, even if the teacher doesn't care about cookies, it's the thought that
counts.

I was asked to make some cookies to give as a gift...so I set out on a new journey. I don't know if you know, I really enjoy making the needle point, cross-stitch cookies. So, these style of cookies are a bit more challenging to me then a bunch of straight lines and dots.

I spent hours looking at videos, images, studied the designs and finally, I settled on the most common ones to make. Not to mention, I didn't have some of the cookie cutters...so I had to order them and add to my fast growing cookie cutter collection.

Here is the video of making the cookies:
Halloween Cookies are fun...and fun to make. Today I'm showing you how to make a Skeleton Hand for Halloween or X-ray cookies (for X-ray technician week).

Hi, I have to tell you I'm not good at drawing and I don't have the time to learn, and practice on how to draw. I'm good at piping straight lines, dots, and make cross stitch cookies...but drawing is not my forte.

For this set of cookies, I used my Pico projector. I totally love this little thing. It works amazing and makes my life easier. (Sometimes, I still wish I was able to draw and pipe without a guide). Using the Pico, I traced the image
to the cookie using a scribe tool. I've learned that I had to make sure the Royal icing is fully
set, otherwise the scratch mark from the scribe tool won't be visible.

I used close to flood consistency Royal Icing and a very small hole in
my piping bag. It's important to pipe the areas that do not connect
together first, and then skip every other area to make sure the icing
does not run together for example: in the carpal area (wrist bones). In
this case, also make sure you let the icing dry or crust over a few
minutes before you pipe the next area.

It is easy to make, but it takes some patience. If you don't have a projector, you can always trace the pattern form a tissue paper.

So what do you need for these cookies? Well, if you are artistic and can draw free hand, forget about the projector and stencils.

Here is what I used:

Pico Projector (you can use other brand that you have),

Basic Sugar Cookie

Black icing for the base cookie,

White royal icing for the skeleton hand

Scribe tool (tooth pick does not work well in this case and the area of

the icing is too small),

Piping bag,

Scissors - to cut the off your piping bag,

Water in a cup to clean your scribe tool.

Have fun decorating you cookies.
Jack-O-Lantern Cookies

Hi, welcome to my page.

Here is an easy Jack-O-Lanter cookie tutorial. Even though it looks complicated, I assure you it is not.

First thing you have to make sure your cookie is smooth on the surface....because a rough surface makes cookie decorating difficult. After all, we want easy.

So, what do you need in order to create these cookies? Well, you will need:

- Your choice of sugar cookies baked in pumpkin shapes (which requires either a pumpkin cookie cutter or a template to cut it out by hand - which is fine if you are only doing a couple)

- Flood or piping consistency Royal icing (I like to use the same consistency through out the process)

- Edible marker (I used Wilton brand)

- Edible food coloring Orange, Black, and Green (I used Wilton brand...and you can use any colors you'd like)

- Scribe tool or tooth pick

- Piping bag (most of the times I use sandwich bags with no tip)

- Paper towels, some water in a cup to clean the tip or your scribe tool

and lastly you will need:

- Some fun music playing in the background.

If I forgot something from this list, please leave a comment below.

to try out. My biggest challenge is making moist, fluffy, light cupcakes.

But not anymore! :)
After trying out many recipes from books, internet, Pinterest, friends, I finally stumbled upon Joy of Baking blog. She has a large collection of recipes with demonstration videos on her blog. I found the Banana Chocolate cupcakes and I fell in love with them right away.
What really made me stick with this recipe was the feedback of one of my friends whom I just could not get the right cupcake baked for her. She loved the cupcake and gave me a very nice compliment. That's when I decided this recipe is a winner.

Chocolate + Banana + Orange = Heaven

Give it a try and let me know how you like it.

P.S. You can also use Young Living Tangerine Vitality Essential oil if you don't have Orange.

Banana Chocolate Cupcakes:

- 1 cup (200 grams) granulated white sugar
- 1 cup (130 grams) all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup (35 grams) unsweetened cocoa powder (regular or Dutch-processed)
- 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup mashed ripe bananas (about 1 medium sized banana)
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) warm water
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) milk
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) canola, corn, or vegetable oil
- 3/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 9 drops Orange Vitality Essential Oil (less or more depending on your taste)

Chocolate Fudge Frosting:

- 3 ounces (90 grams) unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped
- 1/2 cup (113 grams) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 cup (120 grams) confectioners (powdered or icing) sugar, sifted
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Banana Chocolate Cupcakes:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) and place rack in the center of the oven. Line 12 regular-sized muffin cups with paper liners or spray each cup with a non stick vegetable spray.
In a large bowl whisk together the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In another large bowl, whisk together the egg, mashed banana, water, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir, or whisk, until combined. (The batter is quite thin.) Pour or scoop the batter into the muffin cups, about 3/4 full, and bake for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of a cupcake comes out clean.
Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack. Frost with the Chocolate Frosting.

Chocolate Frosting:

Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl placed over a saucepan of simmering water. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
In the bowl of your electric mixer, or with a hand mixer, beat the butter until smooth and creamy (about 1 minute). Add the sugar and beat until it is light and fluffy (about 2 minutes). Beat in the vanilla extract. Add the chocolate and beat on low speed until incorporated. Increase the speed to medium-high and beat until frosting is smooth and glossy (about 2 -3 minutes).
Makes 12 regular-sized cupcakes.

Here is Stephanie show step by step on how to make the cupcakes based on her recipe. To add the Orange or Tangerine Vitality oil add it directly to the egg mixture.

Royal Icing Cross-Stitch Cookie

This is my second Valentine's Day season for making cookies.
I still consider myself new to this form of art, as I work 8-10 hrs a day, 6 days a week...so I don't get many free hours to practice this skill.

I love decorating cookies, it gets me in a relaxing state of mind. If I'm starting to feel overwhelmed, stressed, antsy, I start decorating. So in other word, this is my therapy, my shrink. You would be amazed on how many ideas pop in your head when you get to that relaxed place.

This is one of the easier patterns to follow specially for a beginner cookie decorator.

Start out with a flat sugar cookie. You don't want to have cracks, dips, bubbles, basically an uneven surface. It is critical to get a smooth, flat surface for easy cookie decorating.

The sugar cookie recipe I use is on my blog, click here

The royal icing recipe I use is a Wilton recipe, click here for the video. You will get the basic recipe here and you will have to water it down appropriately for what is needed.

Most of my icing was following the 8-12 seconds rule, which is a bit thicker then I like. The icing for the grid was a little thicker to hold it's shape.

Once the cookie is cooled, you can draw a smaller inner heart in the center of your cookie or just free outline your small heart free handed with white royal icing. It's your choice.

After you outlined the inner heart, outline the edge of the big heart. Flood the cookie between the two outlined areas with red royal icing, use a toothpick or scribe tool to smooth out the icing and pop any bubbles that might emerge.
Drop some white royal icing dots on the red icing while is still wet and with a toothpick or scribe tool drag a line through the center of each dot all around the cookie. ( I hope this sentence makes sense)

Let the cookie dry for about 20 min or so. If you are new, let it dry for a few hours, you don't want to damage the red icing with the icing tip.

Use a size 0 or 1 decorating tip to make the grid. Use the white royal icing, which is a bit thicker, and start piping parallel lines next to each other in the same direction. Once you filled the heart with those lines, turn the heart sideways and start piping another set of parallel lines that go perpendicular to the existing lines. (well another sentence that I hope makes sense to you)

Once the grid is over, you can use the same icing as for the grid to start piping the dots in the grid. A tiny bit runnier works much better as you will not have peaks on each dot. Too runny, and your dots run together. You can actually see it on the right side of the heart (your right) where two dots are kind of running together. I had to pip another dot after it crusted over so the dot can be distinguished.

The basic heart pattern is starting from the bottom working upwards:

Line 1: - 1 dot in the center

Line 2: - 3 dots in the line above

Line 3: - 5 dots in the line above that

Line 4: - 7 dots in the line above that

Line 5: - starting flush from the previous line pipe 3 dots, skip 1, pipe 2 dots

Line 6: - skip a dot and place 2 dots, skip 1, and pipe 2 dots

That's the basic heart pattern.

Once the heart is done, you can add dots to other areas if you feel the center is too plain. Where the grid meets the inside of the big heart, pipe some dots to clean up that joint.

Now is time to add an outside border to your cookie. It's up to you what you want to do...you can just add more dots. That's fine as well. Most of the time I do prefer dots over any other borders. That's just my preference.

On this cookie, I added a little scalloped edge with a red dot in the center. Once that crusted about 10 minutes, I filled the scallops with super runny white icing. What do I mean by super runny? Well, you place some icing in a tiny bowl and add water too it. You will see a foam on top of the mixture. Use a brush (that was only used for food purposes, and I mean only cookies) to place the super runny icing in the small scalloped edges.

Hope this tutorial was easy for you to follow.

These are gluten free, double chocolate yumminess with a hint of Peppermint essential oil. This is Haven. At least in my opinion. I use Young Living Essential Oil for many reasons. If you are interested in purchasing your own oils, click Here.

Now lets get started:

Ingredients:

1/2 cup butter
4 oz semi-sweet chocolate
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
8-10 drops Young Living Peppermint Essential Oil
2 Eggs room temperature
1 1/2 cups Almond Flour
2/3 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped almonds

Preparation:

1. Preheat oven to 350 F Degrees and lightly butter an 8 inch baking pan.
2. Melt butter and chocolate in a medium saucepan over very low heat.
3. Stir in sugars, vanilla, and peppermint oil; set aside to cool.
4. Add room temperature eggs ave beat well to incorporate. Stir in
almond flour and well. Then stir in chocolate chips and almonds.
5. Spread evenly in prepared pan; bake for 30 to 35 min or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
6. Let cool completely before cutting into squares.

Makes 1 dozen brownies
Store in container with a loose-fitting lid.

This recipe was adopted from Blue Diamond Almonds and it's super yummy.

Enjoy

P.S. Young living has a clearly marked indigestible essential oils: They are called the Vitality oils. This is the peppermint one I used.

Cross Stitch Rose Pattern Cookie

What you are looking at here is an 8 inch heart cookie decorated with Cross stitch/ Needlework Rose pattern. This was my first cookie made at this magnitude. I spent hours and hours searching for an easy cross-stitch pattern that would look nice on cookie and I don't have to count too many dots or stitches.

I settled on this easy one, that's on the cookie. However, it was too simple so I had to add more color by adding the sun to the cookie. The cookie just looked to plain, too naked.

So first I baked an 8 inch cookie (recipe is here) at 1/4 inch thickness. I forgot to roll out the dough thicker then 1/4 inch...so I took my chances and baked it anyway. I made sure I let the cookie cool off on the cookie sheet, to prevent it from breaking.

Next, I used white flood consistency royal icing to flood the cookie. I left the cookie dry overnight.

After that I used piping consistency royal icing in white to make the Cross-Stitch Grid. That's a lengthy process. When you make the grid, make sure your elbow of your arm where the piping bag is resting on the table and the other hand is guiding the arm with the bag in hand.

I had to concentrate and I had to make sure no one came into the kitchen to distract me. The grid requires crucial concentration. If you are at the second level of the grid and you mess one up, it is super hard to fix it. So, kick everyone out of the kitchen, get comfortable, and proceed. On the end you will feel a great accomplishment.

Next, I used red piping consistency royal icing to create the rose. It took me some time to figure out where to put the rose, since it was an oddly shaped patter that was going on a heart. Pre-planning your design is highly recommended. What I mean, draw it out on a piece of paper, don't wing it. I did the winging and it took me a lot of time to get this cookie going, make the rose fit and fill in the gaps.

After the rose was done, I continued with the green piping consistency royal icing to create the stem and the leaves. This part was fairly easy and quick.

This is where I saw how naked, plain my cookie looked. So, I doodled, I drew a bunch of stuff around to see what would go. I didn't want to make it look too busy, since the dots already make the cookie look busy. I settled for the sun. So I winged that too. But hey, it turned out OK. Right?

Now the big decision came. Should I fill in the white spots or leave them alone. I jumped on the opportunity to see what it would look like if I totally fill the dots in. Warning, if you have little patients, leave your cookie as is. Otherwise, proceed with the white piping consistency royal icing to fill every single white square in.

It is very important to pipe every other dot first....to prevent the dots from running together and look like a mess. The key to beautiful dots on your cross stitch pattern is to have the right consistency royal icing - not too soft, not too stiff. This will take some practice. If you have lots of practice, you will definitely be able to create beautiful cookies.

I used a recipe I found on my blenched almond flour bag I purchases at Costco. The brand is Blue Diamond Almonds. It is a great almond flour to use for French Macarons, for chocolate chip cookies, pancakes, and so much more.

When I was making the recipe, I added a little more almond milk to my mixture because to me it looked to thick. It did not have the same runny consistency as a wheat pancake has. This was a mistake on my part because I had a hard time flipping the darn thing over. So I added the other egg yolk instead of tossing it away, and also added a little more almond flour to the mix to make it thicker. This was a game changer. I did not follow the recipe to the T...but it still came out great!

This is what it looked like before starting to bake. Not runny.

The other thing I change was I added coconut butter instead of butter. Why you ask? I was too lazy to get it out of the freezer and melt it. So there, coconut butter worked great as well.

After baking it for 3 minutes covered and ready to flip.

Lastly, again I was not up to roasting any almonds, so I skipped that part as well.

Here is the basic recipe:

Gluten Free, Paleo Friendly Banana Pancakes

Makes 6 Servings
2½ cups Blue Diamond Extra Fine Natural Almond Flour
⅓ cup almond milk
¼ cup honey
2 tablespoons melted butter + additional for coating skillet
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon cinnamon
2 eggs + 2 egg whites
1 medium very ripe banana, peeled
½ cup chopped Blue Diamond Honey Roasted Almonds (I skipped the almonds)

Directions

Blend all ingredients except nuts in a blender for 1 minute. Stir in nuts.

Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-low heat.

Brush with a little melted butter and pour batter into skillet,
using about ¼ cup for each pancake. Cover and cook for 3 minutes.

Turn carefully and reduce heat to low. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes more.

Recipe tip: Keep heat fairly low as almond flour tends to burn at a lower temperature.

Let me know how yours turned out. Have fun! :)
These Blue Ribbon Cookies were made for the Dallas, Tx police department in June of 2016. There were ladies from all over the United States and world who sent a grand
total of OVER 81 dozen cookies.

There were over 1200 cookies delivered to the Police Department by my friend's Amber Ward husband. Amber is this awesome who cars about people, specially people in need.

Thanks to her we were able to get this project together.

Here are part of the cookies that were shipped to Amber's home.
format. I must say, it was fun to make...and it was more fun to watch my friend's surprised face.

It was a last minute gift idea. I thought, and thought hard on what to give my friend. I wanted to give her something special. Something, that was made for her and that no one else has given something like this before.
Bingo!

I remembered my first basket weave cake I made 16 years ago, and that inspired me to make this cookie.

So, this is how I made it.

I created a template that I used to cut out the cookie. I had to bake two because the first one broke when I took it off the cookie sheet. The candles on the end of the cookie are fragile, so be careful. Make sure the cookie cools off enough before you place it on the cookie cooling rack.

You will need Sugar Cookie Dough (click on the link to get the recipe). Warning: You will end up with about 2-3 dozen super yummy cookies depending on the size of the cookies.

White medium and flood consistency Royal Icing.

Light brown and dark brown medium consistency Royal Icing

Green medium consistency Royal Icing

Edible Silver Luster Dust

Lemon Extract or Vodka (Vodka dries faster without diluting the icing on the cookie)

Pre-made Royal Icing flowers (can be chocolate, fondant, sugar paste, wafer paper, etc...)

Scribe or tooth pick

Brush

Wilton decorating tip #2 or 3 (depending how thick you want the weaving on the basket to be)

Wilton tip # 352 leaf tip

Disposable piping bags

Edible Ink Marker

Edible color for painting the candles -or use edible markers

Let's get started:

Cut out the cookie using the template (or make your own template) and bake the cookie.

After it has cooled down, draw the basket outline onto the cookie with an edible marker.

Using the dark brown icing and a #2 or #3 tip, start the basketweave by
piping over the lines you just drew for the sides and bottom of the
cake. Next, using the light brown icing and the same size tip just used,
pipe a series of small horizontal lines extending from the dark brown
line to the right, spacing them a tip-width apart. Pipe each light brown
line a little longer than a tip-width. Return to the dark brown icing,
and pipe a vertical line so it covers the ends of the light brown
lines you just piped. Return to the light brown icing, and pipe another
series of horizontal lines tucked between the first and extending over
the dark brown line you just piped. Continue piping vertical dark brown
lines and horizontal light brown lines (offset to the previous set)
until you've filled the entire side of the cake with basketweave.

Fill in the top of the cake and the stand with white flood consistency icing.

After it dried for about 20 min pipe a twisted or S shape edge on the top part of the basket.

Thanks for stopping by. What you'll find here is a short
video tutorial for the Heart Lace-Cross Stitch inspired cookies that were
made for a Mother's Day cerebration.

Hungarians like red, hearts, and things that are made by
hand. Or at least I do. So, what is a better gift than these Red Heart Cookies?

These cookies are not necessarily for Mother's Day only.
You can give one to your neighbor, to your friend, to a stranger, or to
anyone who could use a smile.

A smile is contagious and I love to get it spread the joy with a sweet surprise.

So let's get started.

You will need:

- 3 1/2 inch heart sugar cookies (or your choice of size)
- Red flood consistency Royal Icing
- White piping or medium consistency Royal Icing
- Disposable decorating bags or tipless bags
- Size 1 Wilton decorating tip (optional)
- Scribe tool or toothpick
- Table top fan or regular fan [helps give a shine to the icing (optional)]

Step 1:

Outline and flood the cookie with red flood consistency
royal icing. Use the scribe tool or the toothpick to even out the icing
and to remove the bubbles.

Step 2:

(Before laying the lacework, the surface will need to harden/dry enough to prevent the lacework from sinking in and blending with the flooded area.) In open air, allow the icing to dry ~2-4 hours, or, with the fan blowing directly on them, you can get the process down to about
half an hour.

For the cake:

4
eggs at room temperature
1 cup or 250 ml flour
1 cup or 250 ml
sugar ( I found it too sweet for me)
125 ml vegetable oil
1 tsp
baking powder
Juice of 1/2 lemon
Zest of 1/2 orange
1 1/2
tsp vanilla extract
Oil and flour for the pan or cake release

For
the cream:
5 egg yolks
200 grams sugar
500 ml milk
500
ml heavy whipping cream
2 tbsp of flour
20 grams gelatin
powder/granules
1/2 cup hot water
1 tsp vanilla or lemon
extract

For topping:
6-8 larger oranges.

Preparation of the Cake:

Coat an 8 or 9 inch
pan with oil and dust with flour or use cake release. Preheat oven to
325 F degrees.

Mix eggs and sugar in the mixer till it
doubles in volume.

Add the oil and mix it on medium high, then
add the flour, orange zest, and the baking powder mixed with the
lemon juice. Mix or beat for 2-3 more minutes.

Poor batter in
prepared pan and drop the pan gently on the table to release the big
bubbles. Bake on middle rack for 45-55 min and tooth pick inserted
comes out clean.
Let it cool in the pan for about 10 min and
invert it to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Special note:
Do not open the door of the oven in the first 30 min.

Preparation
of the Cream:

Prepare custard first. Mix together with a
spoon the hot water and the gelatin in a small bowl till the gelatin
dissolves.

Whisk egg yolks, milk, sugar, flour, and vanilla in
a pan till is combined and no lumps are present. Place on low heat
and cook till it thickens. Let it get to a couple of boils.

Remove from the heat and let it cool
for about 10 min stirring occasionally to prevent a skin forming on
top of the custard.

Meanwhile, peal and slice the oranges.
Use a larger pan then the one the cake baked in and line with saran
wrap. Arrange the orange slices on the bottom and sides of the pan to
preference. See image 1.

Cut up the remainder oranges in smaller pieces,
these will be used between layers.

After 10 min mix the gelatin
mixture into the custard till it totally dissolves. Let it cool
completely to room temperature. Once cold, add one third of the
custard to the whipped up cream, mix it well and add the remainder
custard in two parts. Bring the mixer to med high and mix well.

Put
a layer of the custard mixture on top of the orange slices and the
side of the pan, place a cake layer that has orange juice poured on
with a spoon, place another layer of custard mix, cut up oranges and
lastly the second layer of cake that has orange juice on it. (See image 2-4 above and images 5-7 below)

If
you have 3 layers of cake you can use them all.

Make sure you
do not cover the last layer of cake with the custard mix. That will
be the bottom of the cake.

Cover the whole pan and cake with
saran wrap (see image 8) and refrigerate at least 4-6 hrs. ( I usually chill it
over night)

When it is time to serve, remove the wrap and
invert the cake to a platter or cake board. Finish removing the other
wrap that is now on top of the cake.

Hi, thanks for stopping by.

Here is my very first tutorial on making and decorating a sugar cookie.

Hope you enjoy it!

Sugar cookie decorated with a piano silhouette and musical notes

You will need:

- Sugar cookie in your choice of size and shape. I'm using a 5 1/2 inch heart. See recipe below.

- White flood consistency Royal Icing

- White stiff consistency Royal Icing for border

- White stiffer then piping consistency Royal Icing. (Sorry, I'm new to this so I don't have the exact terminology)

- Disposable decorating bags (I also use Ziploc bags)

- Decorating tips Wilton #2 for the border and Wilton #1 for the grid

- Scriber Needle Modeling Tool or tooth pick to remove air bubble if needed. (this is what it looks like http://www.walmart.com/ip/PME-Scriber... )

- Piano silhouette printed on a sheet (size is your choice)

-Tissue paper for transferring the image

-Black Wilton Food Writer Fine tip - Edible color marker ( this is what it looks like and can be purchased here http://www.webstaurantstore.com/wilto... )

Sugar Cookie Recipe I use (It's been adopted, changed and tried)
- 1 cup room temperature butter ( 1 stick salted and 1 stick unsalted)
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs (room temperature)
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla bean paste or extract
- 3 2/3 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder

Mix flour and baking powder in a separate bowl. No need to sift. I use a whisk to mix the two together.
In
a stand mixer, beat butter and sugar till evenly blended. Add one egg
at the time after each egg is well mixed. Add vanilla extract then blend
till thoroughly mixed and make sure to scrape the sides of the bowl as
needed.
Add the flour blend to the butter mixture in 2 batches. Mix
till combined. If mixture is sticky, add a little more flour. I
usually don't have to add extra flour.
Dived batter and half and wrap each half in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1-2 hrs.
After
is cold enough and not sticky, I roll it out between the plastic wraps
to 1/4 inch thickness and bake them at 350 degrees F from 8-10 minutes
depending on the size of the cookies.Lovely Lish Sweetshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07271796051297200167noreply@blogger.com0
